The UK will celebrate the Queen’s 70th year on the throne with a special four-day bank holiday weekend in June. The long weekend will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection.
The Queen’s Birthday Parade will take place on Thursday 2 June, and Trooping the Colour will take place on Horse Guards Parade.
The Queen will watch a flypast of more than 70 aircraft from the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force over Buckingham Palace on the first day of the long weekend.
Members of the royal family will attend a service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral on Friday 3 June.
The Queen is expected to attend the Derby at Epson Downs on Saturday 4 June, and a Platinum Party at Buckingham Palace will be held to mark the occasion. The event will be broadcast live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and across the BBC network.
The Platinum Jubilee Pageant will be held on Sunday, 5 June, and will feature a giant dragon puppet, corgis, acrobats, unicorns, dancers and circus acts. The grand finale will showcase 150 “national treasures”, including Ed Sheeran.

Here is the full itinerary of events that are due to be held on over the Queens Platinum Jubilee this week:
Thursday 2nd June :
- 10am: Trooping the Colour parade begins with a six-minute flypast of more than 70 aircraft from the Royal Navy, the Army and Royal Air Force, soaring over Buckingham Palace.
- Platinum Jubilee Beacons will also be lit on the first day of the long weekend.
- A special ceremony will be held at Buckingham Palace at 9pm to light the Principal beacon, which involves The Tree of Trees, a 21m-high “tree” made of 350 smaller trees.
- At 9.25pm members of the royal family will arrive to watch the lighting of the principal beacon at the palace. also nationally community beacons will be lit by communities, and Commonwealth beacons in all 54 capital cities of the Commonwealth.
Friday 3 June
- A Service of Thanksgiving will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral at before 11am to give thanks for the Queen’s reign then followed by reception at hte Guildhall hoseted by the Lord Mayor.
- Great Paul, the largest church bell in the country, will be rung for the first royal occasion in its history for the service. The ringing of Great Paul will be followed by a peal of bells to celebrate. The bell was made in 1882 but fell silent in the 1970s due to a broken mechanism and was restored in 2021.
Saturday 4 June
- The Queen will attend the Derby at Epson Downs on Saturday 4 June with other members of the royal family.
- Party at the Palace : The day will also be marked with a Platinum Party at the Palace, hosted by Kirsty Young and Roman Kemp. The concert will include three stages, 3D projections across the front of Buckingham Palace. The line-up includes Queen + Adam Lambert, George Ezra, Alicia Keys, Nile Rodgers, Andrea Bocelli, Duran Duran, Bond composer Hans Zimmer, Ella Eyre, Craig David, Mabel, Elbow, George Ezra and Diana Ross. There will also be appearances from Dame Julie Andrews, Stephen Fry, David Beckham and sir David Attenborough.
Sunday 5 June
- Platinum Jubilee Pageant, will begin at 2.30pm and last until 5pm. A giant dragon puppet the size of a double decker bus will feature in the procession, as well as corgis, acrobats, unicorns, dancers and circus acts. According to DCMS, the grand finale will showcase 150 “national treasures”, who will sing the national anthem.
The event is expected to be watched by up to one billion people worldwide and more than 10,000 people will be involved in the £15 million procession . Millions of people will also sit down to a Big Jubilee Lunch in the afternoon as more than 200,000 local events have been planned, including screenings, street parties and lunches.
