West German Tornado Injures 43 people, and kills one.


A tornado “cut a path of destruction” through different towns in western Germany during heavy storms on Friday, injuring 43 people. The tornado ripped off roofs and flung debris for kilometres, according to police in Paderborn. They reported ten people were seriously injured, and one woman’s life had been in endangered.

A 38-year-old male was also killed in the region’s turbulent weather storms. Photographs on social media appeared to show a tornado’s whirling column of air tossing debris, while police shared images of trees downed or split in half and roofs stripped of tiles.

“Sheet metal, insulation, and other items were flown hundreds of kilometres. Countless roofs have been damaged or destroyed. Many trees remain atop the wrecked automobiles ” local police in Paderborn, which has a population of about 150,000, confirmed.

The authorities and police in the area also confirmed that the 38-year-old man died in the town of Wittgert, around 180 kilometres (111 miles) south-west of Paderborn, after being electrocuted in a flooded cellar.

According to a fire service official, the town of Lippstadt, some 30 kilometres (18 miles) from Paderborn, was also affected by a tornado, however no injuries were reported.
