Sir Keir Starmer Escapes Protest Mob

TWO PEOPLE ARRESTED OVER PROTEST AGAINST POLICE PROTECTING THE LABOUR LEADER KEIR STARMER, AMID PROTEST OVER FALSE SAVILE CLAIMS

A large group of demonstrators surrounded and mobbed the Labour Leader, Sir Keir Starmer today as he and David Lammy were walking from the Ministry of Defence along the Victoria Embankment towards Portcullis House, The incident meant Sir Keir had to taken away by a police car escort that came to his assistance shortly after 17:00 (GMT).

Police arrested a man and a woman after a traffic cone was thrown at police officers, who attended to ensure safety, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.

Some of the anger from the protesters seem to have been around vaccinations and the conspiracy of a Government ‘New World Order’ , but it’s also clear from video footage appearing on social media that this anger was influenced by Boris Johnson’s false assertion that Keir Starmer had failed in the prosecution of the late Jimmy Savile when Sir Keir Starmer was head of the DPP as a protester was heard shouting “Jimmy Savile”

Although Boris Johnson condemned the mobbing of Keir Starmer as “absolutely disgraceful” in a tweet today, and praised the police for “responding swiftly”, the anger of the protestors seems likely in part to be product of his recent misinformed allegations in Parliament against Sir Keir’s role when he was in charge of the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP)

Fact-checking Boris Johnson’s Jimmy Savile claim

Mr Johnson has been heavily criticised for making a false claim that Sir Keir failed to prosecute serial sex offender Savile when he was director of public prosecutions. The Labour leader has previously described the comment “a ridiculous slur, peddled by right-wing trolls”.

Angry Protesters clash with police who were called into ‘rescue’ Sir Keir Starmer from anti-vaxxers and those who believed he was involved in not prosecuting serial sex-offender Jimmy Saville

After the incident at Westminster, Labour London Mayor Sadiq Khan tweeted: “This is what happens when fake news is amplified and given credibility by people who should know better.”

And Conservative MP Julian Smith tweeted: “What happened to Keir Starmer tonight outside Parliament is appalling. It is really important for our democracy & for his security that the false Savile slurs made against him are withdrawn in full.”

Home Secretary Priti Patel said she was in contact with police regarding the scenes outside Parliament, which she said were “completely unacceptable”.

The Metropolitan police confirmed the arrests in a statement: “Shortly after 5.10pm on Monday, 7 February, a man who had been surrounded by a group of protesters near to New Scotland Yard, was taken away from the scene by a police car. A man and a woman were arrested at the scene for assault of an emergency worker after a traffic cone was thrown at a police officer. They have been taken into custody.”
