Capitol Building in Security Lockdown

Washington’s Capitol building is in lockdown due to a security threat, only two days before Joe Biden’s inauguration for US president.

News is coming in that an emergency announcement was heard during a rehearsal today for the ‘virtual’ inauguration on Wednesday. This is worrying news, especially following the siege of the building on 6 January, which left people five dead.

Security is obviously tight at this time, with thousands of National Guard members deployed for security for those who will be attending the inauguration. Some people have reported smoke near the Capitol building and the Washington DC fire service confirmed they responded to a fire nearby which was extinguished. It’s believed that a lockdown exists with staff not being allowed in or out of the building.

The US states, and in particular the DC area are on alert for any possible protests, ahead of the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday. The FBI have warned of armed demonstrations of pro-Trump supporters across all US major cities.
